Dr. Shea W. Puttkammer (Formerly Dr. Bethea) graduated from Duke University with a B.S. degree in Biology and a B.A. degree in History in 1997. After completing post baccalaureate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and New York University, Dr. Puttkammer received her M.D. degree from VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia in 2005. In 2008, Dr. Puttkammer completed her Internal Medicine Residency with a focus on Women’s Health at VCU School of Medicine before subsequently completing an Endocrinology fellowship also at VCU School of Medicine. Dr. Puttkammer joined Virginia Diabetes and Endocrinology, P.C. in November 2010. Dr. Puttkammer is board certified in Internal Medicine (2008) and Endocrinology & Metabolism (2010). Her medical areas of interest include women’s health (particularly Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and gestational diabetes), disorders of the thyroid (including FNA and ultrasound and thyroid disease in pregnancy) and diabetes management. When not working, Dr. Puttkammer, a native of North Carolina, is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her family, preferably outdoors enjoying RVA.
